Rise of the Thrall Lord
Lady Lara Stealle
High Wizard of Penwick
The Lady Lara Stealle is the High Wizard of Penwick. At the age of 40, she is still a beautiful woman with long brown hair, blue eyes and an angelic face. She is almost as wise as she is smart.
Originally a member of the House of Hault, Lara married Kratos Stealle when she was 18. It was a couple of years before Penwick had been devastated by the Pirate Eboneye. The noble couple took it upon themselves to help restore the devastated city, urging their families to join them in the great undertaking.
While Kratos concentrated on rebuilding and training the military, opening the “Stealle School of the Blade”, Lara used her training as a wizard to open the “Stealle Academy of Magic”. Though young and still learning, she was extremely bright and very charismatic. She convinced her family and the other noble houses of Avernos and Stealle to back the endeavor. Within a year, the school had ten students and had even attracted a benevolent teacher from one of the nearby islands. This was just as well, because Lara, although extremely bright, was a horrible teacher.
But being quite adept socially, she found herself championing reconstruction projects and social programs designed to uplift the stricken community and rebuild their fair city. Today, though it is not the largest city in Thac, Penwick is quite beautiful with tall buildings, great bridges, a public garden and a large temple dedicated to the God Arenor.
Today Lara is High Wizard of Penwick and sits on the High Council with the Baron of Penwick, her husband who is Admiral of the Navy and her brother Argis who is General of the Army. Lara is also Dean of the Academy of Magic. She uses her position to support many research projects both for the town as well as the local government.
Lara is also something of a crafting genius. She is forever coming up with new inventions, from flying wings to even a small motorized carriage. However, all are prototypes as they are too costly to develop with the town of Penwick’s meager resources.
Lara’s renown with crafting had even reached as far as Lymeridia. She had even been offered a seat on the Wizard’s Council, one of the youngest wizards ever to receive such an invitation. However, she turned it down under the pretext that she had far too much work to do in Penwick between her school, her political and social responsibilities and her family. The Council, having never been turned down before, has officially shunned her. However, rumor has it that some of the Wizards of the Council secretly admire her for standing up for what she believes in.
Lara and Kratos have three children: their eldest son Pallas, named after Kratos father, 22 years old, a spiritblade, and a Lieutenant in the Royal Penwick Navy; their daughter Thea, 20 years old, an Auric Priestess of Arenor; and their youngest son Lloyd, a spiritblade and a member of the companions from Ravenford.
Lara currently lives on the Stealle ranch on the edge of Penwick. She splits her time between her home lab, the City Council, the Academy, community service, and navy defense research on her second lab on board her husband’s vessel the Crusader.
